Managing Complex, High Risk Projects: A Guide to Basic and Advanced Project Management

Managing Complex, High Risk Projects: A Guide to Basic and Advanced Project Management

http://www.cheapebookshop.com/2016/02/managing-complex-high-risk-projects.htmlManaging Complex, High Risk Projects: A Guide to Basic and Advanced Project Management by Franck Marle and Ludovic-Alexandre Vidal
Maximizing reader insights into project management and handling complexity-driven risks, this book explores propagation effects, non-linear consequences, loops, and the emergence of positive properties that may occur over the course of a project.
This book presents an introduction to project management and analysis of traditional project management approaches and their limits regarding complexity. It also includes overviews of recent research works about project complexity modelling and management as well as project complexity-driven issues.
Moreover, the authors propose their own new approaches, new methodologies and new tools which may be used by project managers and/or researchers and/or students in the management of their projects. These new elements include project complexity definitions and frameworks, multi-criteria approaches for project complexity measurement, advanced methodologies for project management (propagation studies to anticipate potential behaviour of the project, and clustering approaches to improve coordination between project actors) and industrial case studies (automotive industry, civil engineering, railroad industry, performing arts,…) and exercises (with their solutions) which will allow readers to improve and strengthen their knowledge and skills in the management of complex and (thus) risky projects.

Environmental Economics, 7th Edition

Environmental Economics, 7th Edition

http://www.cheapebookshop.com/2016/02/environmental-economics-7th-edition.htmlEnvironmental Economics, 7th Edition  By Barry Field and Martha k Field

Environmental Economics is an introduction to the basic principles of environmental economics as they have been developed in the past and as they continue to evolve. The examples discussed in this textbook represent only a sample of the full range of issues that actually exists. For this reason, the Seventh Edition sticks to the basic ideas and ways that environmental economists have found to make the basic concepts and models more specific and relevant to concrete environmental issues. The basic structure and sequence of chapters are unchanged but contain new and updated material that reflects the new research efforts by environmental economists over the last few years.

http://www.cheapebookshop.com/2016/01/elements-of-manufacturing-distribution.htmlElements of Manufacturing, Distribution and Logistics: Quantitative Methods for Planning and Control by Nick T. Thomopoulos
This book describes a variety of quantitative methods that are vital to planning and control in the operations of the industrial world, from suppliers to manufacturing plants to distribution centers and to the dealers and stores. The topics include: forecasting, measuring forecast error, determining the order quantity, safety stock, when and how much inventory to replenish, all this for individual items and for a distribution network where the items are housed in multiple locations. Further quantitative methods are: manufacturing control, just-in-time, assembly, statistical process control, distribution network, supply chain management, transportation and reverse logistics. The methods are proven, practical and doable for most applications.
The material in Elements of Manufacturing, Distribution and Logistics presents topics that people want and should know in the work place. The presentation is easy to read for students and practitioners. There is little need to delve into difficult mathematical relationships, and numerical examples are presented throughout to guide the reader on applications. Practitioners will be able to apply the methods learned to the systems in their locations, and the typical professional will want the book on their bookshelf for reference. Everyone in professional organizations like APICS, DSI and INFORMS; MBA graduates, people in industry, and students in management science, business and industrial engineering will find this book valuable.

Linear and Nonlinear Programming

Linear and Nonlinear Programming

http://www.kingcheapebooks.com/2015/08/linear-and-nonlinear-programming.html
Linear and Nonlinear Programming (International Series in Operations Research & Management Science) by David G. Luenberger and Yinyu Ye
This new edition covers the central concepts of practical optimization techniques, with an emphasis on methods that are both state-of-the-art and popular. One major insight is the connection between the purely analytical character of an optimization problem and the behavior of algorithms used to solve a problem. This was a major theme of the first edition of this book and the fourth edition expands and further illustrates this relationship. As in the earlier editions, the material in this fourth edition is organized into three separate parts. Part I is a self-contained introduction to linear programming. The presentation in this part is fairly conventional, covering the main elements of the underlying theory of linear programming, many of the most effective numerical algorithms, and many of its important special applications. Part II, which is independent of Part I, covers the theory of unconstrained optimization, including both derivations of the appropriate optimality conditions and an introduction to basic algorithms. This part of the book explores the general properties of algorithms and defines various notions of convergence. Part III extends the concepts developed in the second part to constrained optimization problems. Except for a few isolated sections, this part is also independent of Part I. It is possible to go directly into Parts II and III omitting Part I, and, in fact, the book has been used in this way in many universities.
New to this edition is a chapter devoted to Conic Linear Programming, a powerful generalization of Linear Programming. Indeed, many conic structures are possible and useful in a variety of applications. It must be recognized, however, that conic linear programming is an advanced topic, requiring special study.   Another important topic is an accelerated steepest descent method that exhibits superior convergence properties, and for this reason, has become quite popular. The proof of the convergence property for both standard and accelerated steepest descent methods are presented in Chapter 8.  As in previous editions, end-of-chapter exercises appear for all chapters.

The SAGE Encyclopedia of Classroom Management

The SAGE Encyclopedia of Classroom Management

http://www.kingcheapebooks.com/2015/08/the-sage-encyclopedia-of-classroom.htmlThe SAGE Encyclopedia of Classroom Management by W. George Scarlett
A teacher’s ability to manage the classroom strongly influences the quality of teaching and learning that can be accomplished. Among the most pressing concerns for inexperienced teachers is classroom management, a concern of equal importance to the general public in light of behavior problems and breakdowns in discipline that grab newspaper headlines. But classroom management is not just about problems and what to do when things go wrong and chaos erupts. It’s about how to run a classroom so as to elicit the best from even the most courteous group of students. An array of skills is needed to produce such a learning environment. The SAGE Encyclopedia of Classroom Management raises issues and introduces evidence-based, real-world strategies for creating and maintaining well-managed classrooms where learning thrives. Students studying to become teachers will need to develop their own classroom management strategies consistent with their own philosophies of teaching and learning. It is hoped that this work will help open their eyes to the range of issues and the array of skills they might integrate into their unique teaching styles.

The Oxford Handbook of Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship

http://www.kingcheapebooks.com/2015/06/the-oxford-handbook-of-creativity.html
The Oxford Handbook of Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (Oxford Library of Psychology) by Jing Zhou and Christina E. Shalley
Research-based investigations of creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship have the potential to inform each other and enrich our knowledge of each of these areas, particularly with regard to cognitive processes and effective behaviors. Yet, while these research streams have increasingly received a great deal of attention, they have developed largely independently of one another. The Oxford Handbook of Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship addresses the critical need to integrate these three interrelated literatures.
The handbook features contributions from the leading scholars in these research areas. As a group, the chapters examine the intersections of these topics to synthesize contemporary research and provide direction and stimulation for further interdisciplinary investigations of organizational creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The Routledge Handbook of Language and Professional Communication (Routledge Handbooks in Applied Linguistics) by Vijay Bhatia and Stephen Bremner
A handbook like this is long overdue. Professional communication, especially from the workplace vantage point, has long been overshadowed by interest in exclusively academic communication. Bhatia and Bremner have brought together a host of specialists in English for specific purposes, genre analysis, business communication and other related areas, as well as representatives of such fields as banking and law, all of whom contribute to what becomes, in effect, a compelling argument for learning more about written, spoken, and multimodal communication in professional communities.
