Linear and Nonlinear Programming

Linear and Nonlinear Programming

http://www.kingcheapebooks.com/2015/08/linear-and-nonlinear-programming.html
Linear and Nonlinear Programming (International Series in Operations Research & Management Science) by David G. Luenberger and Yinyu Ye
This new edition covers the central concepts of practical optimization techniques, with an emphasis on methods that are both state-of-the-art and popular. One major insight is the connection between the purely analytical character of an optimization problem and the behavior of algorithms used to solve a problem. This was a major theme of the first edition of this book and the fourth edition expands and further illustrates this relationship. As in the earlier editions, the material in this fourth edition is organized into three separate parts. Part I is a self-contained introduction to linear programming. The presentation in this part is fairly conventional, covering the main elements of the underlying theory of linear programming, many of the most effective numerical algorithms, and many of its important special applications. Part II, which is independent of Part I, covers the theory of unconstrained optimization, including both derivations of the appropriate optimality conditions and an introduction to basic algorithms. This part of the book explores the general properties of algorithms and defines various notions of convergence. Part III extends the concepts developed in the second part to constrained optimization problems. Except for a few isolated sections, this part is also independent of Part I. It is possible to go directly into Parts II and III omitting Part I, and, in fact, the book has been used in this way in many universities.
New to this edition is a chapter devoted to Conic Linear Programming, a powerful generalization of Linear Programming. Indeed, many conic structures are possible and useful in a variety of applications. It must be recognized, however, that conic linear programming is an advanced topic, requiring special study.   Another important topic is an accelerated steepest descent method that exhibits superior convergence properties, and for this reason, has become quite popular. The proof of the convergence property for both standard and accelerated steepest descent methods are presented in Chapter 8.  As in previous editions, end-of-chapter exercises appear for all chapters.

Integer Algorithms in Cryptology and Information Assurance

Integer Algorithms in Cryptology and Information Assurance

http://www.kingcheapebooks.com/2015/01/integer-algorithms-in-cryptology-and.html
Integer Algorithms in Cryptology and Information Assurance by Boris S Verkhovsky
Integer Algorithms in Cryptology and Information Assurance is a collection of the author's own innovative approaches in algorithms and protocols for secret and reliable communication. It concentrates on the "what" and "how" behind implementing the proposed cryptographic algorithms rather than on formal proofs of "why" these algorithms work.
The book consists of five parts (in 28 chapters) and describes the author's research results in:

  • Innovative methods in cryptography (secret communication between initiated parties);
  • Cryptanalysis (how to break the encryption algorithms based on computational complexity of integer factorization and discrete logarithm problems);
  • How to provide a reliable transmission of information via unreliable communication channels and;
  • How to exploit a synergetic effect that stems from combining the cryptographic and information assurance protocols.
    • This text contains innovative cryptographic algorithms; computationally efficient algorithms for information assurance; new methods to solve the classical problem of integer factorization, which plays a key role in cryptanalysis; and numerous illustrative examples and tables that facilitate the understanding of the proposed algorithms.
      The fundamental ideas contained within are not based on temporary advances in technology, which might become obsolete in several years. The problems addressed in the book have their own intrinsic computational complexities, and the ideas and methods described in the book will remain important for years to come.
      Readership: Integer Algorithms in Cryptology and Information Assurance would be a book of interest for researchers and developers working on telecommunication security and/or reliability, in industries such as business and banking, national security agencies, militaries, interplanetary space exploration, and telemedicine. Faculty members in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Bio-Engineering and Applied Mathematics Departments, who are planning to teach advanced courses in cryptography; graduate and PhD students; advanced undergraduate students of the same fields; and various national cryptographic societies would also find this book useful.

Although industry has been leveraging the advancements of component-oriented development and assembly (CODA) technology for some time, there has long been a need for a book that provides a complete overview of the multiple technologies that support CODA. Filling this need, Component-Oriented Development and Assembly supplies comprehensive coverage of the principles, practice, and paradigm of component-oriented development and assembly.
The first part of the book provides the conceptual foundation for component-oriented software. Part II focuses on the various standard Java component models and describes how to develop a component-oriented system using these component models. Part III covers the various aspects of the component-oriented development paradigm.
Based on the authors’ research and teaching experience, the text focuses on the principles of component-oriented software development from a technical concepts perspective, designer’s perspective, programmer’s perspective, and manager’s perspective. Covering popular component development frameworks based on Java, it is suitable as a textbook for component-oriented software for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It is also an ideal reference for anyone looking to adopt the component-oriented development paradigm.

Bayesian Programming

http://www.kingcheapebooks.com/2014/10/bayesian-programming.htmlBayesian Programming (Chapman & Hall/CRC Machine Learning & Pattern Recognition) by Pierre Bessiere, Emmanuel Mazer, Juan Manuel Ahuactzin and Kamel Mekhnacha
Probability as an Alternative to Boolean LogicWhile logic is the mathematical foundation of rational reasoning and the fundamental principle of computing, it is restricted to problems where information is both complete and certain. However, many real-world problems, from financial investments to email filtering, are incomplete or uncertain in nature. Probability theory and Bayesian computing together provide an alternative framework to deal with incomplete and uncertain data.
Decision-Making Tools and Methods for Incomplete and Uncertain DataEmphasizing probability as an alternative to Boolean logic, Bayesian Programming covers new methods to build probabilistic programs for real-world applications. Written by the team who designed and implemented an efficient probabilistic inference engine to interpret Bayesian programs, the book offers many Python examples that are also available on a supplementary website together with an interpreter that allows readers to experiment with this new approach to programming.

http://kingcheapebook.blogspot.com/2014/03/digital-geometry-algorithms.htmlDigital Geometry Algorithms: Theoretical Foundations and Applications to Computational Imaging by Valentin E. Brimkov and Reneta P. Barneva
Digital geometry emerged as an independent discipline in the second half of the last century. It deals with geometric properties of digital objects and is developed with the unambiguous goal to provide rigorous theoretical foundations for devising new advanced approaches and algorithms for various problems of visual computing. Different aspects of digital geometry have been addressed in the literature. This book is the first one that explicitly focuses on the presentation of the most important digital geometry algorithms. Each chapter provides a brief survey on a major research area related to the general volume theme, description and analysis of related fundamental algorithms, as well as new original contributions by the authors. Every chapter contains a section in which interesting open problems are addressed.

Parallel Programming: for Multicore and Cluster Systems

Parallel Programming: for Multicore and Cluster Systems

http://kingcheapebook.blogspot.com/2014/01/parallel-programming-for-multicore-and.htmlParallel Programming: for Multicore and Cluster Systems by Thomas Rauber and Gudula Rünger
Innovations in hardware architecture, like hyper-threading or multicore processors, mean that parallel computing resources are available for inexpensive desktop computers. In only a few years, many standard software products will be based on concepts of parallel programming implemented on such hardware, and the range of applications will be much broader than that of scientific computing, up to now the main application area for parallel computing. Rauber and Rünger take up these recent developments in processor architecture by giving detailed descriptions of parallel programming techniques that are necessary for developing efficient programs for multicore processors as well as for parallel cluster systems and supercomputers. Their book is structured in three main parts, covering all areas of parallel computing: the architecture of parallel systems, parallel programming models and environments, and the implementation of efficient application algorithms.
